We offer these links because there is a thriving community of websites that pretend to offer this software but are in reality trying to infect you with viruses or other malware. Spybot Search & Destroy - A very good spyware removal tool. This is free for home users. (Note: during install do not use the "tea timer" feature as it will slow your machine). Ad-Aware - Another good spyware search product. McAfee Site Advisor - A nice little tool that will show you if a webpage is safe to visit before you even click on the link! Adobe Reader - Keep this product up to date with the newest version as it is a common vector for attack if it's outdated. Adobe Flash - Flash is used extensively on the web. Keep this product updated to increase your security from malicious websites. Java Runtime Environment - Ever play web based games? These use Java. Keep Java updated to reduce the risk from malicious websites. Open Office - An alternative to Microsoft Office. This product is not as good as Micorsoft Office, but it does open Office documents and allows you to work with them. FileHippo Program Update Checker - This is a nice utility to show what programs on your computer are out of date. Requires .NET 2.0 to run (this download can be accessed through the FileHippo link too.)
